Kate MacDowell's sculptures take what could easily be a twee concept - merging the human with nature, especially cute animals - and gives a weight and depth to it, especially in her use of death, decay (note that it's fungi, not flowers, growing on the heart), and lone body parts. She describes her work as "the romantic ideal of union with the natural world conflict[ing] with our contemporary impact on the environment." Again, definitely check out her other work. Only for the sake of consistency am I limiting this post to three images.
