{ Jen Stark }

So I typically don't post sculptures on this site because I always feel like so much gets lost in flattening them out to 2D. However, after finding these artfully executed photographs of Jen Stark's amazing paper sculptures, I had to change my mind. (I want to say: these images (the first three) create anew in their replication, they take their 2-D format as opportunity not limitation, whereas most sculpture photography (the fourth image), forfeits the art in being content to merely reproduce it.) Anyways, I really admire her sense of color and her willingness/desire to create such vibrant works. And then there is the utterly astounding meticulousness of each of her sculptures, which, in a sense, echos the theme of their colors: you can just tell that so much life was poured into these...and thus meant to be drank from them.

  1. Her work is intoxicating. I'm going to have to figure out a project for my students so I can introduce this to them.
