{ Josh Poehlein }

Here are some fantastic (fantas-ful?) images from Josh Poehlin's "Borderlands" series. These images seem to play on that thin line between reality and un-reality, that space where real-ization and imagination blur into one other. I like that his imagined worlds play with the actual one, suggestively transforming that very actuallity. I also especially like Poehlin's use of etching to create his imagined realities, a technique that depicts a presence in creating an absence, in the removal - or suspension - of the reality that was originally there. But Poehlin's etchings are only sketches, outlines, and so they call us into those borderlands, and ask us to inhabit them for a while, to fill in the pictures with depth, life, story.
