{ Michael Wolf }

Picking up a bit on the theme from the last post (that of "hard" "heavy" "heaps of metal" - I swear the alliteration was due more to laziness in word choice than any sense of poetics), here are a few pieces from photographer Michael Wolf. Focusing primarily on urban cityscapes and the lives that weave in and through them, Wolf's images tend to be overwhelming in their density and scale. Even two of Wolf's projects which focus specifically on human subjects are set within or seen through a context that seems to dwarf them (one is a compilation of 100 photographs of individuals in incredibly small living spaces, entitled "100 x 100," and thereby implying each person's place on a massive grid or housing development; the other is a selection of Google images from their "street view" camera in Paris, and so the individuals are viewed in and through the lens of this massive (search) engine). As I've said before, in keeping each post fairly consistent thematically, I often leave untapped the diversity many artists offer. Michael Wolf is no exception, so please check out his website. (These images are taken from his "Transparent City" and "Architecture of Density" series.)
