{ Zach Johnsen }

Is it possible for a pacifist to say that these are the most inspiringly violent images I've ever come across? The "violence" is of course muted (or transformed) by Johnsen's brilliant use of color in otherwise monochromatic images. They actually remind me a lot of James Roper, especially his "Rapture" series. I just love the energy that spews forth from these figures, and the little coffee stains around them, as if the artist himself had just experienced such an explosion. These four images come from two different series, both appropriately titled: "Contains Caffeine" and "Acid in the Ice Cream."
