These wonderful photos come from Indiana University student, Zack Kowalczyk. His series
Food? seems to explore how we've come to interact with our food, that is, how we see it, what we count as "food." I'm reminded of
Jamie Oliver's recent TED presentation in which he played a video where he visits an elementary school and asks the children (likely 1st or 2nd graders by the look of it) to name the raw vegetables he shows them. What happens? They are utterly baffled. They know the names "potato," "broccoli," and "onion," but have no idea what these look like in their unprocessed forms. I take these photos as making a similar point, albeit in a much more aesthetic (and therefore more subtle? or more potent?) way.
